Greek Sculpture Question

How can education validate significant student learning in our Digital Era?
Take the Challenge

  • Question on the shift of assessment? Is this the only way to assess in the new era or is it to compliment what we have already?

  • View this as an opportunity to provide another means for assessment: for those children who aren't as successful in the traditional approach.

  • If the HSC is the ultimate assessment, why waver from traditional approach? It needs to enhance their understanding and their ability to succeed in these ultimate examinations.

  • Scope to provide new means for assessment so long as there is enough guidance as to HOW to make this shift effectively.

  • Must have significant criteria developed for each medium used. There is some implementation of this in 3,4 unit HSC English?

  • Quality of the assessment needs to change to assess the entire process of education involved.

  • Must encourage students to leave comfort zones and try other mediums. Avoid pigeon-holing themselves into one specific medium that they are happy with. Maybe present different choices of medium for each assessment/project.

  • This must be regarded as a tool to enhance creativity. Doesn't have to lose the traditional rigour which is still regarded as important. eg/ Ribena

  • Will the technology detract from the enthusiasm and passion that defines an excellent teacher?

  • Students must be able to use the technology regardless of where teacher's passions lie. To avoid it prevents learning opportunity which is important in this age.

  • Teachers aren't as technologically savvy as students at this period in time. An opportunity to get students to use their understanding of technology to teach and learn from one another.

  • Implications of having a screen constantly in front of you? Power, neurologically, visually, socially? Even pastorally - manners, courtesy language etc. eg/ first video.

  • Must explore avenues where it is appropriate and understand that it isn't always the best choice.

  • Could be used as an instant portal if the need arises to access online material.

  • Is "no. of hits" considered validation? Sometimes the most inappropriate things receive the most attention.

  • Technology allows assessment for people who may understand but lack the literacy to express their understanding adequately.
